About Nicholas
Nicholas Paul is a composer, recording engineer and pianist from Lichfield, UK, specialising in writing imaginative scores that blend both orchestral and electronic textures to tell stories through music. Nicholas' journey has been beautifully shaped by a diverse range of influences, from classical greats like Chopin to contemporary artists such as Hans Zimmer.
Currently studying in his final year at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Nicholas is diving into a final major project that blends ensemble and synthesised compositions, aiming to combine these with poetry and sampled field recordings that culminate in Crave, a 45-minute album featuring ensembles such as The Boulanger Trio, The Romantic Revival Orchestra, and The Cheltenham Philharmonic Orchestra.
"Music is my way of expressing emotion, whether that is love, hate or even mild irritation - it's all there."
Nicholas Paul
When he is not striving to break the boundaries of traditional composition, Nicholas also collaborates with performers and composers as a sound engineer and producer. He is taking up both roles for various upcoming albums, such as Echoes of Our Island by Bianca Vancea and Maria Willsher, and Hues, an album of original compositions by Leeds-based composer, Ella-Rose Rayner.
Looking ahead, Nicholas is currently working on scoring the short film Quiet, (Middling Women Productions) and is raring to continue exploring film scoring and collaborating with filmmakers to embolden their storytelling through score. His goal is to create soundscapes that resonate with both avid film buffs and casual watchers on a deeper level, making each score a unique experience.
